LA FIESTA DEL PUEBLO PLANNED FOR SEPTEMBER 25 IN TIFTON
TIFTON - Authentic food, festive music, traditional dances, arts and crafts, and a children's carnival are part of the annual Fiesta del Pueblo, the biggest celebration of Hispanic culture in South Georgia. The festival is scheduled for September 25 at Fulwood Park in Tifton, GA from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Non-stop entertainment will take place on stage at Fulwood Park. Mariachi Jalisciense, Havana Son, Lucero de la Mañana, the Azteca Dancers, Cultura Latina and other local groups will be performing traditional Mexican music and other Latin rhythms like salsa, son, boleros, cumbia and meringue. The Mexican group L.B.O. will play for the street dance.
The children's area will include a giant slide, a moon walk, an obstacle course, a “rock climb” slide, and a train. Other activities for the children include face-painting, games and arts and crafts. Booths with information about health, education and social services will be located in the festival area.
Food vendors will prepare a variety of typical dishes from different countries. The festival is free and open to the public. Last year we did not have the festival due to the recession, but this year we are coming back stronger. In 2008 the festival attracted more than 10,000 people from 34 counties and 4 states.
In 2004 La Fiesta del Pueblo was recognized by the Georgia Council for the Arts, Office of the Governor-Grassroots Arts Program as an outstanding recipient of grassroots funding. Governor Perdue indicated that La Fiesta and seven other projects around the state show how arts can change lives and can be used as a tool to strengthen Georgia communities.
