John Jaramillo: Aztec Dances of Mexico - A performing artist since 1983, has performed and taught at theatres, festivals, art centers, colleges, universities and schools throughout the United States. In full Aztec Warrior Style dance regalia the program opens with a dance and blessing to the four directions followed by a greeting in the Aztec language of Nahuatl. An explanation of the events performed and brief history of the Aztec people will be told (in English) with Spanish and Nahuatl terms used. Several Aztec Warrior Style dances will be presented as well as presentation of the costume and traditional musical instruments. A Friendship Dance in Aztec style, inspired by the powwow two-step dance from the North American Plains Indians, will end the program with audience participation.
John Jaramillo: Flamenco Dance of Spain - A professional performer since 1983. During this time he has performed and taught at theatres, festivals, art centers, colleges, universities and schools throughout the United States. The program begins with cante (the song), featuring the sounds of Spanish guitar and voice. The dancer is then incorporated defining a cuadro the relationship between the singer, guitarist, dancer and audience. Spanish culture and gypsy culture are understood through discussion, poetry and presentation of dance styles with taped musical accompaniment. The Spanish language is used to describe the dance, costumes plus Flamenco terms and phrases for audience participation with jaleo shouts of encouragement! Palmas (rhythmic hand clapping) and playing castanets (a percussion instrument) involve audience participation.
Seich - At the early age of 24, Seich has captivated the Hispanic audience with his catchy melodies, exceptional live performance and profoundly romantic lyrics. Having spent over nine years perfecting his live shows, Seich has opened up concerts, performed in a variety of Latin festivals and upscale nightclubs and is now ready to take his performance to a bigger audience. Seich is rapidly gaining credibility not only as a talented guitar player and composer, but also as an exceptional singer and performer with original material that is appealing to the Latin-pop audience. His music revolves around the sound of love combined with Latin rhythms, positive lyrics, and a unique touch of blues-rock.
Mariachi Jalisciense - Straight from Quincy, Florida, Mariachi Jalisciense has become well known around South Georgia. Havingstrong played at Our Divine Saviour Catholic Church for the Virgin of Guadalupe celebration for the last two years and making a return visit to La Fiesta Del Pueblo, these four musicians under the direction of Juan Lopez will play a variety of traditional Mariachi music from the stage followed by a strolling show around Fulwood Park.
Lucero de la Mañana - Dressed in colorful costumes of red colored split skirt adorned with Christian images, bells and noise-making beads worn over white clothing, sometimes with the image of the Virgin and bandanas worn on the head; these dancers, also called the soldiers of the Virgin, carry gourd rattles and ceremonial bows and arrows as they perform a very colorful and unusual dance. Directed by Tomás Fresa, they danced last December at the Virgin of Guadalupe Celebration at ODS Catholic Church.
Azteca Dancers - Choreographed by Carlos Corona from Moultrie, these dancers wearing elegant headdresses or “Penachos“ made from feathers, and colorful costumes made with different fabrics, designs and Aztec idols, will perform Aztec dances and rituals that have been part of the Mexican culture for generations.
Cultura Latina Dancers - Students from ABAC enrolled in the CAMP and HEP programs will be performing folkloric and modern Latin dances.
Grupo L.B.O. - Will be performing typical dancing music at the street dance.
