Welcome to the ABAC Alumni Association! The purpose of the Alumni Association
is to support activities which strengthen and enrich the educational and
extracurricular programs of the college. These programs in turn allow the
college and its students and alumni to make a maximum contribution to the
economic, social, cultural and spiritual life of Georgia and the nation.
The ABAC Alumni Office seeks to involve the alumni in the work of the college
and to involve the college in the lives of its former students. This mission
is accomplished by the activities of the ABAC Alumni Association. Nancy
Clark Coleman, a 1975 graduate of ABAC, has served as the Director of Alumni
Relations since 1985.
The ABAC Alumni Association consists of over 40,000 former students who
have completed at least 15 quarter hours or 10 semester hours at ABAC.
Only those who have earned 30 or more semester hours or 45 or more quarter
hours are considered active alumni and are eligible to receive the alumni
newspaper, ABAC Today, which is mailed three times a year. There are no
dues.
The Alumni Association is governed by a Board
of Directors consisting of 31 members representing a wide cross section
of class years, majors and geographic locations. The board meets four times
a year.
There are several special interest groups within the
Alumni Association. The Golden Alumni Association includes alumni who
have graduated 50 or more years ago from ABAC or any of its three proceeding
institutions. This very active group meets annually at Homecoming and
is represented on the Alumni Association Board of Directors. The Young
Alumni, those who graduated within the past 15 years, are also represented
on the Board of Directors.
The Ag Alumni Council represents
alumni from the Division of Agriculture and Forest Resources and includes
family and consumer sciences and veterinary medicine. A board of directors
guides the activities of the most active group within the association.
The Alumni Association sponsors an annual awards
program to recognize alumni who have excelled in their various professions
as well as community service and service to ABAC. Award winners are announced
at the annual Homecoming Awards Luncheon.
The Association presents the George
P. Donaldson Award to the graduate who exemplifies the scholarship,
leadership and service demonstrated by the former college president.
The award is presented at graduation. The Alumni Association also sponsors
two Alumni Scholarships. The scholarships, in the amount of $1,000
each, are awarded to the son or daughter of an ABAC alumnus during
the annual Honors Day program.
The work of the association is funded by gifts made
to the ABAC Foundation. The alumni association supports the Foundation’s
Annual Fund campaign which is coordinated by the director of alumni relations.
The alumni is consistently one of the leading groups in this campaign.
