Education / Biography AS in Forest Resources – ABAC Teaching Philosophy: The teaching strategies I use are fairly simple: I try and do whatever it takes to help the students learn. Based on my personal opinion and on responses from successful graduates of our program, the most effective method I use is teaching by example. Luckily, in the wildlife program, our field trips and labs allow students to see and experience many things first-hand. When students hear information presented to them, they often forget the information in a short time. But when they see things being done or have to do things themselves, they are more apt to learn and remember the information. It also builds a tremendous amount of credibility with the students when I am getting my hands dirty right along with them. I also try and develop as many projects and assignments as I can that allow the students to get hands-on exposure to the course information. I try and help students with anything outside of my classroom, whether it is helping with other courses, giving advice on personal issues, or helping students acquire jobs. I believe that a teacher should not be someone who only presents information. A great teacher should help students succeed in all aspects of education and life, and in my case, make sure that they are prepared for their future careers.
