FOREST SAFETY
(1 Semester Hour)

COURSE
OBJECTIVE:            Through discussion and demonstration, this course is designed to provide the student
                            with a knowledge of forest safety (general first aid, proper use of chainsaws, and safety
                            procedures for hazardous chemicals).

GRADING
SCALE:                 90 - 100% = A
                           80 -  89% = B
                           70 -  79% = C
                           65 -  69% = D
                           Less than 65 = F

GRADE BASE:        Midterm Exam    35%
                           Final Exam         65%

STRUCTURE:      This course will be conducted in three blocks at various times throughout the semester.

POLICIES:        - ABSENCE FROM ANY COURSE BLOCK WITHOUT APPROPRIATE DOCUMENTATION WILL
                        RESULT IN A GRADE OF "F."
                       - No early or late FINALS.
                       - Final exam scores and course grades will not be posted.
                       - Students may NOT participate in chainsaw lab without proper clothing, chaps, eye
                         protection, hardhat, and cut-resistant gloves.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Students will receive hands-on training with chainsaws.  The hazardous chemical portion will focus on minimization of exposure to the applicator and sensitive environmental areas.  First aid procedures for the more common field-related maladies such as heat stroke, anaphylactic shock, and snakebite will be emphasized.
