Do I
have to take the SAT or ACT?
Most
applicants do NOT have to take the SAT or ACT. SAT or ACT scores are no
longer required for admission to ABAC for traditional-age applicants who
graduate from an accredited high school. Test scores are still needed
for ACCEL or joint enrollment students, international students, home
schooled students, and students from non-accredited high schools. Call
us if you have questions about this.
|
|
Is there any reason I might
still want to take the SAT or ACT if I intend to attend ABAC?
Yes.
A student who has satisfied the college preparatory math and English
courses may exempt placement testing if SAT or ACT scores meet our
placement test exemption requirement.
|
|
How high do my SAT or ACT scores need to be for me to exempt placement
testing?
If
you graduated from high school within the past five years, you must have
a 480 SAT Critical Reading and 480 Math scores or 20 ACT English and 20 Math
score, as well as completion of the math and English college preparatory
courses in high school.
|
|
What grade point average is required for admission to ABAC?
If
you graduated from high school within the past five years, we require a
minimum 2.0 GPA in the 16 CPC courses for College Prep students and a
minimum 2.2 GPA in the 13 academic courses for Tech Prep students.
|
|
Does ABAC accept students who graduate from high school with a Tech Prep
diploma?
Yes.
We do accept students with Tech Prep diplomas.
|

What is Early Bird Orientation?

special “invitation only” orientation session for students whose
application file is complete by March 1 to register early for fall
classes. Only applicants whose application file is complete (except
final high school transcript for those still in school) by March 1 will
receive an invitation to Early Bird Orientation.
|
|
What makes an application file complete?
We
must have all of the following:
Application with $20 application fee, official high school or college
transcript (partial is acceptable if the student is still attending high
school or another college), complete immunization form (Hepatitis series
may be in progress if it is required), placement testing completed if
required.
|
|
What official documents does ABAC need?
ABAC
requires official copies of high school and all college or technical
school transcripts.
If
GED scores are used for admission to ABAC, we require official GED
scores.
|
|
Do
you accept students who earned a GED?
Yes,
if you have earned your GED and your high school class has graduated,
you are eligible for admission to ABAC. You can call 1-800-94-MY-GED to
have your official scores sent to ABAC.
|
|
What makes transcripts official?
Official transcripts are in the original envelopes from the school and
are sealed and stamped by the institution. Do not open the envelope or
the transcript is no longer an official transcript.
|
|
How do I get my transcript if my high school no longer exists?
Contact
the Board of Education office in the county in which your high school
was located.
|
|
Do
I have to turn in the application fee with the application?
Yes,
the fee is part of the application process and is required at the time
you submit your application. Your application will not be processed
until the fee is received.
|
|
What shots are required on the immunization record?
2 MMR
Tetanus - Diptheria (within the past ten years)
Varicella
Hepatitis B (required if 18 or under when classes begin)
|
|
If
I have applied to another college, can I use a copy of the immunization
form I provided to them?
Yes,
if the form includes all of the immunizations required by ABAC and is
signed by your health care provider. Attach it to the ABAC Certificate
of Immunization, and complete Part A of the ABAC form.
|
|
How long does it take to find out an admissions decision?
You
will receive a “Data Verification” letter approximately one week after
our office receives your application and application fee. Please review
the information and contact us immediately if you see a mistake. ABAC
operates on a “rolling admissions” cycle, which means that we will
evaluate your application each time we receive something for your
file. Once we receive enough information to make a preliminary
admission decision, you will receive an “Official Acceptance Letter”.
|
|
If
I am accepted to ABAC, am I obligated to attend?
No,
however we certainly hope you will. At the time you apply for
admission to ABAC, we encourage you to also apply for Financial Aid and
for housing. Should you change your mind and decide not to attend,
please contact us to let us know.
|
|
How long do you keep transcripts and other paperwork if you have not
received an admissions application?
Files
are kept for one year.
|
|
How long do you keep completed admissions records for students who do
not attend during the term indicated?

the application process, including the application fee at that time.

What is the
difference between a college transfer degree program and a
career/technological degree program?
In a college
transfer degree program (Associate of Science-A.S. or Associate of Arts-A.A.), your
primary objective is to complete a 65 hour program of study at ABAC and
transfer to a four year university for completion of a Bachelors degree.
In a
career/technological degree program (Associate of Applied Science-A.A.S),
your primary objective is to complete a 60-72 hour program of study and
enter the work force.
|
|
What courses do
I need in high school to be admitted?
ABAC encourages
all high school students to complete the college preparatory high school
curriculum. We evaluate every high school transcript for the sixteen
units of College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC), as defined by the
University System of Georgia as follows: 4 units of English, 4 units of
math (Algebra I and above), 3 units of natural science, 3 units of
social science, and 2 units of the same foreign language. Students who
do not satisfy the sixteen CPC units in high school and choose one of
our transfer majors (AA or AS) are required to satisfy all CPC
deficiencies prior to earning 30 semester hours in college. Students
majoring in one of our career/technological degree programs (AAS) must
meet the minimum admissions requirements, but are not required to
satisfy CPC deficiencies in college.

Can I get college
credit for non-credit coursework?
Credit for
coursework taken on a non-credit basis is evaluated on an individual
basis. A student requesting review of coursework taken on a
non-credit basis should submit official transcripts for evaluation to
the Enrollment Services Office. The Registrar will consult with
the appropriate Division Chair, if necessary, and will determine if
credit is warranted. The student will be notified when the review
is completed.
|
|
Can I get
college credit for military service and training?
Credit for
prior military experience and training is determined on an individual
basis, following the guidelines published by the American Council on
Education for the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed
Services. Students must submit official military transcripts for
evaluation to the Registrar. Students should see the Registrar for
additional information. |
