Bachelors of Arts or Science in Rural Business & Economic DevelopmentThe School of Business offers a program of study that leads to the B.A. or B.S. degrees in Rural Studies: Business and Economic Development. The degree concentration builds upon the basic knowledge, skills, and values provided by the College Core Curriculum while preparing students for a wide range of careers as well as for graduate study in numerous fields. The interdisciplinary degrees address the social, business, economic, demographic, political and cultural aspects of the development of businesses, rural economies, and communities in North America and prepare students to identify needs and opportunities in both public and private sectors and to offer workable solutions for issues of the changing rural landscape. The program prepares students to start their own businesses; grow family businesses; work in private sector businesses, government entities, and non-profit entities. The program also prepares students for graduate school programs whether in business or more social public sector studies. The program emphasizes the importance of critical thinking skills, encourages an appreciation of diverse cultural perspectives, and develops a greater understanding of the issues particular to the rural environment to provide an avenue of self-knowledge, cultural understanding, and social responsibility.
