Research Interests

• Systematics of Trilliaceae and its placement within Monocots
• Classical and molecular botany, taxonomy and floristics
• The use of molecular methods and computers in taxonomy, systematics and phylogenetics
• Evolution of the chloroplast genome particularly within Monocots
• Thesis title: Toward an understanding of the global phylogeny of the Trilliaceae (published in Systematic Botany)
• Dissertation title: A Systematic Study of Trillium subgenus Delostylis (publication in preparation)

Hobbies and Interests

• Floristics of the Southern Appalachians (especially the Spring Flora)
• Trillium
• Who are you strange people? No, it’s not a play or a renaissance faire.
  It’s the Society for Creative Anachronism, an international, educational organization
  dedicated to recreating (mostly) pre-17th century western European Civilization. The southeastern US is part of
  The Kingdom of Meridies. I serve as the Steward (or president) of the
  Embroiderer’s Guild, and am a member of the
