Upward BoundUpward Bound is a federally funded program designed to generate in participants the academic skills and motivation necessary for success in post-secondary training. Upward Bound has been a vital part of ABAC and surrounding communities since 1977; thirty-five years of motivating students to succeed. The Project design consists of three (3) major components: Academic Year Component, which is conducted through an After School Tutorial Program 2 hours or more a week at the target school and once a month Saturday sessions held on the ABAC Campus Summer Residential Component, which is conducted for six weeks during the summer months, Participants are housed in a a Residential facility and have three meals a day in the college dining hall. Bridge Component, which is exclusively for those participants who graduated from school during or at the end of the school year. It is conducted in the summer and designed to prepare the participants for the transition from high school to college. They are enrolled in college taking 6 hours of course work. The project activities include, but are not limited to the following: Classroom instruction in: English, Reading, Science, Art, Journalism, Computer Science, Math, Speech and Drama, Ethnic Studies, and Foreign Language, SAT/ACT Preparation Self-Growth Support: Counseling, study skills instruction and tutoring, career exploration, financial aid assistance, social and recreational activities, cultural enrichment, educational trips Seminar and workshops on: Social graces, human sexuality, alcohol and drug abuse, interviewing skills, health and wellness, etc. Contact us: James Lewis – Upward Bound TiftArea – 229-391-5144 Jean Oliver-Burks - Upward Bound Classic - 229- 391-5143 |
