What’s on reserve for my class?

You would find out what is ON RESERVE for your class by going to the GIL Homepage. The second option under the search box says Search Course Reserves. Choosing this option lets you search the reserves by professor and/or course number. (P. S. If your professor is not listed here, the library does not have anything on reserve for him or her at the time. Check with your professor for clarification.)

Why am I printing blank pages?

If you are printing blank pages from GALILEO databases, it may be that you are trying to print a .pdf file by using the File option in the top left hand of the screen. Try printing a .pdf file by using the print option that is within the Adobe Acrobat Reader screen.

How do I get my card activated?

If you go to class in Tifton come to the library to activate your card. It will take about three minutes. After you have activated your library card, the library staff will be able to tell you the current password for GALILEO, show you how to log into your GIL account and other services you will now have available to you. If you are an off-campus student (i.e. you attend class in Moultrie) you use the form linked here and we will be pleased to activate your card for you. If you have sent in your form and have not received notification that your card is activated within 24 hours, please call the front desk at 1-229-391-4990.

I need the GALILEO password!

Easiest way to get the GALILEO password is ask for it when you get your library card activated. Because of copyright and licensing issues, the library staff is unable to give you the password unless you have an activated ABAC library card. If you are off campus AND have an activated card, you can request the password by filling out the form. The password changes every semester for security reasons, so, if the password you remembered from last semester is not working, this may be the reason.

Library tour info

Yes we have copies of the library tour at the library.

How do I cite?

We strongly recommend you consult your writers’ handbook for citation questions. The library has the most up to date versions of the MLA Handbook and the APA handbook and can help interpret them for you. GALILEO has developed a site that that will tell you everything you ever needed to know about citing resources found in their databases. There are also a few places on the web where you can go and put your citation information in and the site will generate a citation for you. Here are two.

Citation Style Guides This website begins with the MLA Citation Style Guide, but you can choose others once you get to the site.
ASA Style Guide  This is the American Sociological Association guide.

Why a GIL account?

Activating your library card automatically gives you a GIL account and allows you to check out material from ABAC’s library, as well as any other library in the University System of Georgia. It also allows you to order books from other University System of Georgia libraries to be sent to ABAC for you to use (GIL Express is the name of this service). Having a GIL account also gives you the right to ask for the GALILEO password, which allows you to use the GALILEO databases off campus.
