Learning Support


Learning Support is a University System of Georgia program for entering students who need additional assistance for college-level English or math.

A student’s Learning Support requirements are determined on the basis of the Required High School Curriculum GPA,  SAT/ACT scores, required high school curriculum deficiencies, and/or college placement exams scores. To exempt learning support placement screening a student must:

For English (reading/writing)

  • score 26 SAT Reading or higher; OR
  • score 20 ACT English or higher; OR
  • score at or above the advanced proficiency level on the Georgia High School Graduation Test – English Language Arts (Consult the GHAGT Concordance Chart on the Student Affairs Resource page); AND
  • have met the Required High School Curriculum requirement in English
  • earned college level credit for ENGL 1101

For Mathematics

  • score of 25.5 SAT-Mathematics or higher; OR
  • score of 20 ACT- Mathematics or higher; AND
  • have met the Required High School Curriculum requirement in mathematics
  • earned college level credit for Math 1001 or higher

A student who does not meet the exemption for English and Math will have indexes calculated and placed according to the USG Learning Support Placement policy.
