Athletics
ABAC offers six intercollegiate sports: Baseball, tennis, and golf for men and soccer, softball, and tennis for women. ABAC athletes compete in the
Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association.
Campus Publications
The Stallion is the premier student newspaper in both the state and the southeast region. It wins annual awards for excellence in all categories, such as editorials, feature writing, photography, layout and design, given by the Georgia Press Association. Staff of the literary magazine,
Pegasus, and creative writing faculty sponsor numerous poetry readings each year. Other events include a Writer’s Harvest and contributions to the George Scott Day festival.
Economic Impact
ABAC has an annual economic impact of over $251 million on Tift and contiguous counties.
Nurses Do Well At ABAC
Nursing students at ABAC are ultra successful. The ABAC pass rate on the NCLEX examination for R.N. licensure averages 98 per cent.
On Campus Housing
Almost 1,300 students live on campus for the 2011 fall term in either ABAC Lakeside or ABAC Place
Size of Campus
ABAC covers 516 acres of sun-splashed south Georgia countryside. It is located in Tifton, Ga., a town of 16,000 residents. Tifton is the county seat of Tift County, which includes 42,000 residents.
State College
ABAC is a State College of the 35-member University System of Georgia. The College offers bachelor’s degrees and associate degrees.
The ABAC Faculty
ABAC faculty are a very active and accomplished group. In fact seven of them have been selected as Fulbright Scholars. They attend over 60 professional conferences and meetings each year and publish over 20 books or articles and reviews in juried journals and other compilations. Faculty have been nominated for distinguished literary prizes such as Pushcart, selected as fellows or scholars at prestigious conferences such as Breadloaf and Sewannee, received dissertation research grants, coaching awards, national teaching awards, and Governor’s Awards. Faculty have also been selected as Governor’s Teaching Fellows. Faculty have performed around the world and have taught abroad in Germany, England, and other locations.
The Music Program & Performing Arts
The ABAC Music program features six different performing groups: Concert Choir, Jazz Choir, Chamber Singers, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and the Thundering Herd Pep Band. These groups have performed in Europe, at Disney World and all over Georgia and Florida. The First Tuesday Concert Series is a premier production each month during the academic year that brings regional professional artists to the ABAC campus. The Baldwin Players, the ABAC theatre group, stage a production each semester and support other performance activities on campus. In conjunction with the First Tuesday Concert Series, art students create an art show in the Music Building for patrons of the concerts. Students also host an art show to showcase their work at the end of each semester.
