How to Determine the Version of Windows on Your
PC

- Note: To determine which operating system you have (except for Windows
Vista), follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
- Click the General tab. The name of the current version of your Windows
software is displayed on this tab.
Optional Route:
- Start [button]
- Windows 98: The version is not shown on the Start button pop-up menu.
- Windows 2000: The left side of the Start button pop-up menu will display
the version -- see image below.
- Windows XP: Single Column: The left side of the Start button pop-up menu
will display the version.
- Windows XP: Dual Column: Windows XP only -- see image
below.
