Add a Network Printer
Using Windows XP
- Start [button]
- Printers and Faxes [submenu]
- Add a printer [link]
- Next [button]
- Select "Local printer attached to this computer" [radio button]
- Unselect "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer"
[check box]
- Next [button]
- Select "Create a new port" [radio button]
- Select "Standard TCP/IP port" [pull-down]
- Next [button]
- Next [button]
- Enter the IP address of the printer in the "Printer Name or IP Address"
box [text entry box]
- Do not change the text in the "Port Name" box [text entry box]
- Next [button]
- Select "Standard" [radio button]
- Next [button]
- Finish [button]
- Wait patiently...
- Select the "Manufacturer" [left scroll box]
- Select the specific model of the "Printer" [right scroll box]
- Next [button]
- If you are prompted, select "Keep existing driver (recommended)" [radio button]
- Enter an appropriate "Printer name" (e.g., HP Color LaserJet 5N in Conger
419) [text entry box]
- Select "No" [radio button] for "Do you want to use this printer as the
default printer?"
- Next [button]
- Select "Do not share this printer." [radio button]
- Next [button]
- Select "No" [radio button] for "Do you want to print a test page?"
- Next [button]
- Finish [button]
- Wait patiently....
- Print a sample document from Word, etc. to ensure network connection
and IP address are correct.
