Add a Network Printer

Using Windows XP

  1. Start [button]
  2. Printers and Faxes [submenu]
  3. Add a printer [link]
  4. Next [button]
  5. Select "Local printer attached to this computer" [radio button]
  6. Unselect "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer" [check box]
  7. Next [button]
  8. Select "Create a new port" [radio button]
  9. Select "Standard TCP/IP port" [pull-down]
  10. Next [button]
  11. Next [button]
  12. Enter the IP address of the printer in the "Printer Name or IP Address" box [text entry box]
  13. Do not change the text in the "Port Name" box [text entry box]
  14. Next [button]
  15. Select "Standard" [radio button]
  16. Next [button]
  17. Finish [button]
  18. Wait patiently...
  19. Select the "Manufacturer" [left scroll box]
  20. Select the specific model of the "Printer" [right scroll box]
  21. Next [button]
  22. If you are prompted, select "Keep existing driver (recommended)" [radio button]
  23. Enter an appropriate "Printer name" (e.g., HP Color LaserJet 5N in Conger 419) [text entry box]
  24. Select "No" [radio button] for "Do you want to use this printer as the default printer?"
  25. Next [button]
  26. Select "Do not share this printer." [radio button]
  27. Next [button]
  28. Select "No" [radio button] for "Do you want to print a test page?"
  29. Next [button]
  30. Finish [button]
  31. Wait patiently....
  32. Print a sample document from Word, etc. to ensure network connection and IP address are correct.
