How does MailShield Work?

Note: Messages from students must be released by you or the student.

MailShield's TMDA feature stops "junk" messages from reaching Outlook, Eudora, Off-Campus WebMail, etc.

  1. MailShield maintains a "safe" list of sender addresses.
Messages from addresses listed in the "safe" list will go directly to your mailbox in Eudora/Outlook.
  2. Messages from ABAC addresses will go directly to your mailbox in Eudora/Outlook.
  3. Messages from addresses not listed in the "safe" list and not from ABAC will be on "hold" in MailShield for 7 days or until the sender releases the message (see Step #4).
  4. The sender of a message being held will receive notification to reply to release the message for delivery. This link will add the sender's address to your "safe" list. See image below.
  5. Future messages from sender addresses listed in your "safe" list will go directly to your mailbox in Eudora/Outlook.
  6. Spam messages are typically sent from non-existent addresses. The sender would not receive the message in Step #4 to click on the link. Therefore, the spam sender address would not be added to your "safe" list.
  7. You can also release messages from "hold" to your mailbox in Eudora/Outlook without the sender having to take action as described in Step #4.

  8. You can also add users to your "safe" list without the sender having to take action described in Step #4.

  9. Spam messages will be on "hold" in MailShield for 7 days. After 7 days, MailShield will delete the messages automatically.
  10. Note: Messages from students must be released by you or the student.
