Backup PC Data for Windows XP

 

Note: To restore data from your backup disks, please contact Tech Support at 3228. Please do not attempt restoration without technical assistance.

Windows XP

  1. Note: Read/Write Information for Zip Disks

  2. Before beginning the backup, please format 1-3 zip disks. Your backup may require multiple zip disks.

  3. Start [button]

  4. All Programs [pop-up menu]

  5. Accessories [side menu]

  6. System Tools [side menu]

  7. Backup [icon]

  8. Next [button]

  9. Select "Back up files and settings" [radio button]

  10. Next [button]

  11. For Specific File Locations
    a. Select "Let me choose what to back up" [radio]
    b. Next [button]
    c. Select Specific File Locations [above links]

  12. AND/OR

  13. For Windows Default Locations for My Documents and Settings
    a. Select "My Documents and Settings" [radio button]
        Includes the My Documents folder, plus your Favorites, desktop, and cookies
    b. Next [button]

  14. Select "Zip Drive" as "Choose a place to save your backup" [pull-down]

  15. Enter a description for this backup as "Type a name for this backup" [text entry box]

  16. Next [button]

  17. Finish [button]

  18. Backup dialog box will display the progress.

  19. IF the backup file exceeds the zip disk space, you will receive a message:

  20. Please insert another blank zip disk, OK [button]

  21. You may need to repeat Steps 18-19 until the backup completes

  22. Close [button] when backup has completed
