Procedure for Requesting Housing Accommodations

Student Responsibilities:

1. Follow necessary procedures to apply for residence hall living through http://www.abac.edu/housing/.

2. Register with the Student Development Center by following appropriate Student Development Center procedures (see procedures at the Student Development Center’s web page at http://www.abac.edu/sd).

3. Provide approved documentation to verify specific disabilities to the Student Development Center and a request for specific accommodations in housing.

4. Discuss the requested accommodations with Dr. Maggie Martin or Ms. Annie Sims in the Student Development Center.

5. If the request is approved through interdisciplinary team staffing, the Student Development Center will send a memo to Student Life and Housing outlining the recommended accommodations.

Student Development Center Responsibilities:

1. A member of the Student Development Center will present the student’s request, along with the appropriate documentation, to other professional staff at an interdisciplinary team staffing to determine if request is an appropriate accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

2. If approved, the Student Development Center will provide a memo outlining the recommended accommodations to the appropriate contact at Student Life and Housing. Pre-planning is imperative.
