Mission Statement
The Student Development Center, a department of the Student Affairs Division is committed to providing an equal educational opportunity (including academic, cultural and recreational experiences and facilities) for all qualified students with documented disabilities. These opportunities include support services, auxiliary aids and accommodations for qualified individuals, based on a student’s individual and documented needs in compliance with Section 504 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. Fostering a positive and supportive attitude towards students with any disability is important to our mission.
EQUAL = Means academic accommodations and physical disabilities.
QUALIFIED = Means all students, regardless of disability status, must meet minimum admissions standards.
REASONABLE = Means accommodations that do not substantially alter the essential functions of a course of study.
INDIVIDUAL = Means accommodations are based on individual need as stated in the student’s documentation of the disability.
An individual is referred to as “disabled” if she or he meets at least any one of the following criteria:
- She or he has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of her/his major life activities.
- She or he has a record of such an impairment, or
- She or he is regarded as having such an impairment.
