The college has seven academic divisions through which the total academic
instructional program is conducted. The division faculty work under the
guidance of a chair who is responsible to the Vice President and Dean of
Academic Affairs. The faculty and chairs are responsible for initiating
new programs and changing existing programs.
College transfer programs and
career programs of study are available to the student. The college
transfer studies are designed to prepare the student to enter a senior
institution as a junior. Some courses prescribed are common to both the
career and transfer programs; others are not. To avoid loss of credit, any
student who is undecided about entering a transfer program or a career
program should work closely with his/her advisor to take courses common to
both types of programs.
The college offers two
associate degrees in the college transfer program: the Associate of
Science and the Associate of Arts. Under one of these two degrees comes
the program of study which the student chooses. An Associate of Science
degree is offered in all divisions except Humanities. The college transfer
curricula which lead to this degree prepare the student to transfer and
continue a program leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in the
elected major. The Associate of Arts degree offered in the Humanities and
Social Science Divisions prepares the student who seeks to earn the
Bachelor of Arts degree in the elected major.
Regardless of the program of
study chosen, each student in the transfer program must complete the
requirements of the college-wide
Core Curriculum. Physical Education and
Freshman Seminar course requirements are in addition to 60 hours required
in the Core Curriculum.
