How does a student sign up for the Regents' Test?
Students sign up for the Regents' Test here.
A student who registered for the test is guaranteed a test as long as that
student has signed in, been cleared, and arrives for the test at the designated
time. A picture ID is required. Students MUST confirm their registration and
clearance for the test.
Is the Regents' Test offered in Moultrie?
Yes. Whether or not an ABAC student takes classes in Moultrie, ABAC students can
take the test in Moultrie. Students must register for the test when registering
for classes and before the announced deadline.
What if a student did not register for the Regents' Test when registering for
classes and before the deadline?
Students who did not register for the test will need to sign in at the Office of
Student Success a month before the test. If a student fails to register at this time, then the student will be placed on a
waiting list. The number of tests available is based on the number of students
who registered for the test when they registered for classes. Students cannot be
guaranteed that they will test during that semester if they did not register for
the test when registering for classes.
When does a student take the test?
The test should be taken:
1. Once a student becomes available to take ENGL 1101 (namely upon completion of both ENGL 0099 and READ 0099), the student should immediately register to take the Regents' Test, even if not registered for ENGL 1101.
2. Students MUST take the test in the first semester of enrollment after they
have completed 30 credit hours if they have not taken it previously.
All students who have not taken nor passed the Regents' Test during the semester
in which they have earned 45 credit hours must take the appropriate non-degree
course or courses (RGTR 0198 or RGTE 0199) each semester of attendance
thereafter until they have passed both components of the test. See
Schedule of
Test Dates.
3. Students who do not take the test, but are eligible, are counted as having failed the test. If a student does not pass the test twice (whether due to failure on the test or failure to take the test) will be required to take the appropriate non-degree
course or courses (RGTR 0198 or RGTE 0199) each semester of attendance
thereafter until they have passed both components of the test.
What is the Regents' Test like?
The test has two sections:
1. Essay - You must write an essay on one of four assigned topics.
2. Reading - This section is a 54 item, multiple-choice test that consists of
nine reading passages. Each passage is followed by questions covering
comprehension, vocabulary and analysis.
How long does the test take?
The test lasts approximately two and one-half hours: one hour for the Essay and
one hour for the Reading. Another 30 minutes are needed for check-in,
distributing and collecting materials, giving instructions and filling out the
answer sheets with identifying information.
Both sections must be taken in the same session when taking the test for the
first time: the Essay test first, then the Reading test. During the final 15
minutes of the Essay portion of the Regents' test, students are permitted to use
a dictionary or spell check (printed or electronic with the sound turned off)
with a thesaurus, but not a stand-alone thesaurus.
What are passing scores?
A student must score a minimum of "61" out of "99"on the Reading portion. The
Essay must receive a score of "2" or better to pass with the scoring range of
1-3.
How will results be announced?
Scores are available the last week (usually during Final Examinations) of each
semester online via BANNER Web.
What if the Test is failed?
If a student passes one portion of the test and fails another portion, the
student does not have to remediate (or take the test) for the passed section.
The student must remediate after failing a section twice by enrolling in the appropriate
course, either RGTR 0198 or RGTE 0199. Remediation is required before the
student can retake either or both of the failed sections of the test.
Students requiring remediation classes will also register for the test when
registering for classes. If the remediation course is passed, the Instructor
will notify the Office of Student Success Staff. Students will confirm their
registration for the test the day before the test by signing in at the Office of
Student Success.
Do non-native speakers of English have to take the Regents' Test?
Yes. Non-native speakers of English must have graduated from a non-U.S. high
school in order to receive extra time on the test or have proof of taking the
GED in Spanish, or the TOEFL, or MELAB for proof of English proficiency.
READING (RTPI 0000R)
ABAC International students whose first language is not English take the
Regents' Reading Test and are allowed double time. The student must register for
this section of the test when registering for classes. The day before the test,
students are to confirm their registration in the Office of Student Success. A
picture ID is required.
ESSAY (RTPI 0000E)
ABAC International students whose first language is not English will write a
parallel Regents' Essay. These students will receive double time to write the
Essay.
Students must register for the appropriate section(s) of the test when
registering for classes. The day before the test, students are to confirm their
registration in the Office of Student Success. A picture ID is required.
Any non-native speaker of English who has not passed both parts of the Regents'
Test before earning 45 hours must take remediation every semester until both
parts of the test are passed.
How about transfer students?
Students from outside the University System who transfer in with 30 or more
credit hours shall register for the test the first semester of enrollment. All
students transferring from within the University System of Georgia shall be
subject to all provisions of the Regents' policy.
What about readmitted students?
Former students who are readmitted to ABAC may take the Regents' Test after
completing English 1101 with a "C" or better (required to take the test). They
will be required to take the test in the semester after they have earned 30
hours of degree credit if the test has not been passed previously. Initial
testing may not be delayed beyond a student's having earned the 30th hour of
degree credit.
What do I need to bring to the Test?
1. A picture ID (driver's license, passport, Gold Card ID, etc.).
2. Two #2 pencils and two ballpoint pens (black only).
3. Be on the check-in list by confirming your registration for the test. Go by
the Office of Student Success the day before the test with a photo ID.
4. A dictionary (printed or electronic with sound turned off) with or without a
thesaurus.
(A stand-alone thesaurus is not allowed).

remediate once and are on their third attempt automatically receive double
