Saving PowerPoint Presentations for Students' Web Use

Sample Formats (click on link for a sample of each format):
PPT -- Downloadable Presentation using PowerPoint software
HTM -- Viewable Presentation using Internet Explorer
PDF -- Printable Presentation using Adobe Acrobat Reader
    Slides:  Color    Grayscale    Pure Black and White

    Handouts -- Grayscale -- x per page:    1    2    3    4    6    9
    Outline View Grayscale

Save PowerPoint (PPT) Presentation as Web Slide Presentation (HTM)
including Speaker Notes

  1. Open PowerPoint (PPT) Presentation

  2. File [menu]

  3. Save as Web Page [submenu]

  4. Provide an acceptable "Page Title" using Change Title [button]-- displays in title bar and prints

  5. Select "web drive (aka mapped drive)" as the drive location

  6. Select any folders as needed for the location of the file

  7. Provide an acceptable filename

  8. Leave the Save as File Type as "Web Page"

  9. Save [button]

Save PowerPoint (PPT) Presentation as Web Slide Presentation (HTM)
excluding Speaker Notes

  1. Open PowerPoint (PPT) Presentation

  2. File [menu]

  3. Save as Web Page [submenu]

  4. Publish [button]

  5. Unselect "Display Speaker Notes"

  6. Provide an acceptable "Page Title" using Change [button]-- displays in title bar and prints

  7. Select "web drive (aka mapped drive)" as the drive location

  8. Select any folders as needed for the location of the file

  9. Provide an acceptable filename

  10. Publish [button]

Save PowerPoint (PPT) Presentation as Printable Presentation (PDF)
Handouts 1, 2, 3, 6, 9 slides per page; Outline; Notes Pages; Slides

  1. Install free PDF converter
    a. Install/Open PDF Printer Driver to convert documents TO PDF format (Alternate download)
    b. Install/Open Free Converter to convert documents TO PDF format (Alternate download)

  2. Open PowerPoint (PPT) Presentation

  3. File [menu]

  4. Print [submenu]

  5. Select "PDF995" or "CutePDF" as the printer name

  6. Select Print What: "Handouts" or "Outline" or "Notes Page" or "Slides"

  7. For Handouts, Select Number of Slides per Page: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9

  8. OK [button]

  9. Select "web drive (aka mapped drive)" as the drive location

  10. Select any folders needed for the location of the file

  11. Provide an acceptable filename

  12. Leave the Save as File Type as "PDF"

  13. Save [button]

Save Outline from PowerPoint (PPT) Presentation as Web Page (HTM)
excluding Speaker Notes

  1. Open PowerPoint (PPT) Presentation

  2. File [menu]

  3. Send To [submenu]

  4. Microsoft Office Word [side menu]

  5. Outline only [radio button]

  6. OK [button]

  7. Microsoft Word opens displaying your Outline. The following steps are in Microsoft Word

  8. File [menu]

  9. Save As

  10. Provide an acceptable "Page Title" using Change [button]-- displays in title bar and prints

  11. Select "web drive (aka mapped drive)" as the drive location

  12. Select any folders as needed for the location of the file

  13. Provide an acceptable filename

  14. Save As Type: Web Page (*.htm, *.html) [button]

  15. Save [button]

  16. Note: Formatting isn't "pretty."

Note: Handouts, Outline, Note Pages, and Slides can be "printed" to PDF in color, grayscale, or pure black and white. I recommend grayscale.

Students will need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader free to open PDF files.
