ABAC Honors Program Director Luke Vassiliou presents Justin Byers with a $1,000 scholarship from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.

Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Awards ABAC Student $1,000 Scholarship

TIFTON--The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Justin Byers, a sophomore engineering major from Tifton, at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Foundation President J. Mark Davis said that Byers was one of 400 recipients nationwide recognized in this year's program for his commitment to academics and community.

Dr. Luke Vassiliou, advisor to the ABAC Honors Program, made the presentation to Byers, who is a member of the Honors Program as well as the College Activities Board and an orientation leader.

"I really enjoy the Honors Program at ABAC," Byers said.  "Since we take many of our classes together, it's just like a learning community of honor students."

A graduate of Tift County High School, Byers plans to attend Georgia Tech next year.  He chose to begin his college career at ABAC because of its location and the small class sizes.

"I really like ABAC," Byers, the son of Jim Byers and Miki Mole, said.  "The teachers really care about the students."

The Coca-Cola Two-Year Colleges Scholarship Program is made possible with funding from the Joseph B. Whitehead Foundation.  The Whitehead Foundation provides grants in support of human services initiatives.  The late Joseph B. Whitehead was one of the original bottlers of Coca-Cola.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is supported by the financial commitment of the Tifton office of Coca-Cola and The Coca-Cola Company.  The Foundation was created in 1986 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Coca-Cola and to establish a legacy for the education of tomorrow's leaders.

Now in its ninth year of funding, the Coca-Cola Two-Year Colleges Scholarship Program, the Foundation has provided $3.7 million in scholarship awards to students attending two-year degree granting institutions and more than $35 million toward the Coca-Cola Scholars Program during the past 20 years.
