NINETEEN GRADUATE FROM 227TH ABAC POLICE ACADEMY

TIFTON—Nineteen individuals from the South Georgia area recently received certificates at graduation exercises for the 227th session of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) Regional Police Academy at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Academy Director Marty Smith said the Overall Achievement award for the session was awarded to Jamal A. Shareef of the Valdosta State University Department of Public Safety. Shareef also received first place in Academic Achievement for the 227th session. Second place in Academic Achievement was awarded to Gerald D. Watts of the Valdosta Police Department. Watts also served as president for the 227th session.

First place in Firearms was received by Justin B. Stewart of the Worth County Sheriff’s Office. Robert R. Day of the Bainbridge Police Department received second place in Firearms.

Other graduates included Jimmy R. Eaton, Jr., and Paul E. Turner, II of the Adel Police Department; Spencer L. Rozier of the Albany Police Department; Gregory Brown, Emory R. Deen, and Christopher D. Jowers of the Bainbridge Police Department; Daniel D. Chaney of the Fitzgerald Police Department; and Derrik A. McLeod of Lake Park.

Other graduates include Timothy B. Davis of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office; Jeffrey L. Coalson of the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office; William L. Neel from Naylor; Johnny L. Smith of the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office; Alan W. Christopher, Jr. of the Valdosta Police Department; Colt M. Smith of the Valdosta State University Department of Public Safety; and Chad Wentworth of the Worth County Sheriff’s Office.

GPSTC Regional Police Academy regularly holds multi-week intensive training sessions designed to acquaint officers with state-of-the-art law enforcement techniques. The Academy operates in cooperation with the Division of Social Science at ABAC.
