ABAC SELECTS NEW HONORS PROGRAM STUDENTS

 

TIFTON—Twenty freshmen have been selected for the prestigious Honors Program at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.   The 2008 class of new selections includes three valedictorians and two salutatorians of area high schools.

New Honors Program students include the following: Amanda Bowen, a Nursing major from Fitzgerald; Gregory Bowen, Jr., a Political Science major from Fitzgerald; Megan Frith, an Agriculture major from Jakin; Winston Gibbs, an Engineering major from Hartwell;  Leandra Gonzales, a Computer Science major from Willacoochee; Patrick Ireland, an English major from Tifton; William Jackson, a pre-Med major from Vienna; Joshua Jones, a Diversified Agriculture major from Kathleen; Jessica Kalina, a pre-Vet major from Griffin; and Camille Lewis, an Environmental Science major from Dacula.

Other  new students in the Honors Program include Megan Marshall, a pre-Med major from Sylvester; Jacob McWhorter, a Mass Communications major from Tifton; Sarah Beth Merritt, an Art major from Tifton; Jeremy Newhouse, a Forestry Resources major from Warner Robins; Lora Nichols, a History major from Tifton; Ashley Reising, an Animal Science major from Loganville; Brant Sandifer, a pre-Dentistry major from Tifton; Daniel Simmons, an Animal Science major from Pendergrass; Cassie Spears, a Business major from Nashville; and Megan Thompson, a Psychology major from Savannah.

Greg Bowen, Jr., is the valedictorian from Fitzgerald High School, Gonzales is the valedictorian from Atkinson County High School, and Jackson is the valedictorian from Crisp Academy.

Amanda Bowen is the salutatorian from Fitzgerald High School, and Marshall is the salutatorian from Worth County High School.

Membership in the program is gained through high school academic standing, SAT or ACT scores, and an invitation from Dr. Luke Vassiliou, Honors Program Director. The minimum required SAT score is 1100 for the combined Math and Verbal portions of the test. The fall 2008 incoming class has an average combined Math and Verbal score of 1214 (591 Math score average and 623 Verbal score average).

Students already at ABAC can join the Honors Program if they have the nomination of an ABAC faculty member and at least a 3.5 GPA after 15 hours of completed class work at ABAC.
