Mannheim Musicians and Lawhon Performing April 1 AT ABAC

TIFTON – The Mannheim Musicians and Gina Lawhon will be the featured performers at the First Tuesday Concert on April 1. The concert begins at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

The concert is free to ABAC faculty, staff and students as well as for Arts and Entertainment season ticket holders. General admission is $3, and student admission is $1 with a student ID. For more information, contact Dr. Susan Roe at 229.391.4943.

Lawhon is a local piano/organ instructor.  She attended Oklahoma Baptist University and graduated with a Music Education degree from North Texas State University.  She has accompanied and played for a wide variety of musical events both local and statewide including a concert with the Brandenburg String Quartet and several recitals at Valdosta State University. She has also performed with the Albany Symphony Orchestra.

Lawhon has two recordings:  “Praise His Greatness,” a sacred collection, and “Christmas favorites,” a Christmas collection.  She teaches general music with the Tift County Public School System.

Mannheim Musicians is a group of local professional musicians who are also studio teachers and/or music educators.  Managed by Sheri Grabowski, Mannheim Musicians sub-contracts these musicians for various events such as weddings, receptions and local performances.

Originally, the group was a trio that was formed in 1983 during Grabowski’s college years at Columbus College (now Columbus State University) and in 1989 became “Mannheim Trio” when the three original performers were asked to record for a radio broadcast for ABAC’s campus radio station.  Since then, the group of musicians has expanded not only its repertoire but also its members who are able to give the community a wider variety of  music.

Mannheim Musician performers include Grabowski, flute; Lesli Holton, flute; Betsy Jones, violoncello and Greg Millette, keyboard. All are from Tifton. The group also includes Linda Williamson from Albany, violin; Jonni Snyder from Fitzgerald, violin; Tracy Jones from Albany, violin; Vicki McKinney from Albany, viola; and Bob Hubbard from Valdosta, double bass.

Other upcoming music events at ABAC include the annual Spring Tour April 4-6, Spring Concert April 15, Sophomore Recital April 17, George Scott Day Jazz Festival April 22 and Music Major Recitals April 24 and 28.
