Top Worth County honor Graduates Choose ABAC

TIFTONThree of the top four honor graduates at Worth County High School will receive full tuition scholarships this fall through the ABAC Foundation Scholars program at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Valedictorian Jessica Padgett, Salutatorian Megan Marshall, and fourth honor graduate Mitchell Potts will receive the scholarships which cover all tuition and fees for two semesters.

The ABAC Foundation makes available on an annual basis full tuition scholarships to three of the top five graduates from high schools in Tift County, Colquitt County, Worth County, Cook County, Turner County, Fitzgerald, Irwin County, Berrien County, and Tiftarea Academy.

“Students of this academic caliber could choose to go to a variety of different colleges,” ABAC President David Bridges said.  “For them to select ABAC is just another reason why we are fast becoming Georgia’s State College of choice.”

Betty McCorvey from the ABAC College Advancement Office said the scholarships are funded from proceeds from the Dollars for ABAC Scholars event.  She said that annual fundraising event for the college has been moved to the fall this year from its usual spring date.

Padgett has served as the State FFA Vice President, FFA Chapter President at Worth County High, SGA Class President and has been involved in the journalism and chorus programs.  She won the Principal’s Award, the DAR Good Citizen Award, and was named to Who’s Who and the SAT 1100 Club.

Marshall has participated in FFA throughout high school, as well as Beta Club, Foreign Language Club, and Student Government Association. She served as FFA Chapter Historian during her junior year.  Marshall is a two time participant in the Governor’s Honor’s program, a Merit Scholar, and was named to the SAT 1100 club.

Potts was the Beta Club President, FBLA public relations person, a member of Key Club and the academic bowl team. He won the Most Academic award and was a member of the Georgia State Superintendent Student Advisory Council.

The application deadline for the fall semester at ABAC is Aug. 5.  Classes begin Aug. 18.
