HONOR Graduates Choose ABAC
TIFTON —The
top two honor graduates at
Valedictorian Greg Bowen, Jr., and Salutatorian Amanda Simons will receive the scholarships which cover all tuition and fees for two semesters.
The ABAC Foundation makes available on an annual basis full tuition scholarships to three of the top five graduates from high schools in Tift County, Colquitt County, Worth County, Cook County, Turner County, Irwin County, Fitzgerald, Berrien County, and Tiftarea Academy.
“Students
of this academic caliber could choose to go to a variety of different
colleges,” ABAC President David Bridges said. “For them to select ABAC is
just another reason why we are fast becoming
Betty McCorvey from the ABAC College Advancement Office said the scholarships are funded from proceeds from the Dollars for ABAC Scholars event. She said that annual fundraising event for the college has been moved to the fall this year from its usual spring date.
Bowen
was the drama club treasurer, editor of the school newspaper, show choir vice-president,
a member of the Student Government Association, Beta Club, the yearbook staff
and a three-year member of the marching band. He won 21 academic awards for
various subjects and received a Georgia Certificate of Merit. Bowen was also named
Simons has been involved in the drama club, one act play, show choir and marching band color guard. As a senior she served as captain of the color guard team. She has also played fast pitch softball. Simons has remained in the top ten of her class for the past two years and has been honored for the highest average in many of her classes.
The application deadline for the fall semester at ABAC is Aug. 5. Classes begin Aug. 18.
