FIRST TUESDAY CONCERT MARCH 4 WILL FEATURE BROADWAY TUNES


             TIFTON – The First Tuesday Concert on March 4 at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will feature Broadway favorites. The concert begins at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths.

The concert is free to ABAC faculty, staff and students as well as for Arts and Entertainment season ticket holders. General admission is $3, and student admission is $1 with a student ID. For more information, contact Dr. Susan Roe at 229.391.4943.

The performers include Jason and Andrea Millsaps, Gina Lawhon, Blane and Barbara Jacobs, and Susan and Scott Spivey.

Jason Millsaps is the Minister of Music at Tifton’s Northside Baptist Church.  He received a Bachelor of Music with a minor in business administration degree from Carson Newman and a Master’s Degree from Southwestern Theological Seminary. Andrea Millsaps received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Carson Newman.  During their time at Northside, the Millsaps have led many special musical presentations including a January spectacular in the brand new worship center at the church. The Millsaps live in Tifton with their son, Jonathan, age two. 

Lawhon is a local piano/organ instructor and a general music instructor with the Tift County school system who attended Oklahoma Baptist University and graduated with a Music Education degree from North Texas State University.  She has accompanied and played for a wide variety of musical events including a concert with the Brandenburg String Quartet and several recitals at Valdosta State University (VSU). She has also performed with the Albany Symphony Orchestra.  Lawhon has two recordings:  “Praise His Greatness,” a sacred collection, and “Christmas favorites,” a Christmas collection. 

 Blane Jacobs is the Minister of Music and Youth and his wife, Barbara, is the Associate Minister of Music and Youth at the First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald, where they have served for 15 years.  Their duties include leading the Sanctuary Choir, Church Orchestra, Handbell Choir, Youth Choir and assisting with the Children’s choir ministry.  They also head up all the youth activities in the church which reaches into the community through the Fitzgerald High School Athletic Department, Band and Chorus.  He graduated with honors from ABAC in 1997 with a degree in music and will graduate in April from Judson College with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Music and a minor in Church Music.  Barbara plays flute, organ and piano and has taught all three instruments privately. 

Susan Spivey graduated magna cum laude from VSU with a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance in 1994, where she also earned the prestigious Outstanding Music Major Award. She later completed the Bachelor of Music Education degree from VSU in 1996.  Spivey has served for the past nine years as pianist for the First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald. She has been the accompanist for Fitzgerald High School and Ben Hill Middle School Choral Programs.  She also served as the accompanist for the Governor’s Honors Program in 1999.  Spivey has taught music education in the public schools, taught private piano, and served the ABAC music faculty as an adjunct instructor of piano.  Currently, she performs with the Four Grands, a group of four pianists who have been playing together for the past two years. She and her husband, Scott, have two children, Len and Taylor.

Scott Spivey graduated from VSU with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in Accounting. In addition to being an Investment Consultant with Len Taylor Investments in Fitzgerald, Scott is the founder and President of Prospectus Central.  His music background includes singing, playing the piano, and playing the trumpet.  While at VSU, Spivey performed with the VSU Concert Choir and the VSU Chamber Singers.  He is a member of the choir at First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald and is a frequent soloist for many of the performances.
