Roberts to Speak on Doc Holliday on Feb. 12 at ABAC

TIFTON - Dentist turned gunslinger Doc Holliday will be the featured topic when Dr. Gary Roberts speaks on his new book at 7 p.m. on Feb. 12 in Howard Auditorium on the campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Roberts, a former Chair of the Division of Social Science at ABAC, will read from “Doc Holliday: The Life and the Legend.”  The event is open to anyone who would like to attend at no charge.  It is sponsored by the Division of Social Science and the Division of Humanities at ABAC.

A man who fell in love with the American West at an early age, Roberts sold his first article on frontier violence to a national magazine as a senior in high school. He has since published more than 75 articles in a variety of publications.

Roberts co-edited with Dr. Hal Henderson “Georgia Governors in an Age of Change” in 1988.  He authored “Death Comes for the Chief Justice: The Slough-Rynerson Quarrel and Political Violence in New Mexico, 1867” and his most recent book on Holliday, a man who once lived in Valdosta.

The Holliday book has been a selection of both the History Book Club and the Book-of-the-Month Club.  It was included in Doubleday Entertainment’s “A Pocket Guide to the Best Books of 2006” and was picked as one of the top eight Southwest Books of the Year.
