Tennis Team Selected for National Academic Honor

The women’s tennis team at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College has been named the Spring Academic Team of the Year in the National Junior College Athletic Association for its academic success during the 2007-08 academic year.

ABAC Athletics Director and Tennis Coach Alan Kramer said the minimum grade point requirement for consideration for the honor was 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

“This honor makes me even more proud of these players,” Kramer said. “Here’s a team that finished fourth in the national tournament and still showed such determination in the classroom that they were recognized by the NJCAA.”

The Fillies won their 15th consecutive NJCAA Region 17 title in April before the fourth place finish nationally. Members of the team included Monika Lalewicz, Kedi Magakgala, Lindsay Jacobs, Chade Scott, Calli Robinson, Nicole Hall, and Brooke Anglin. Lalewicz won the national title at #1 singles.

ABAC begins classes for the fall semester on Aug. 18.
