Grassroots funding deadline september 12

TIFTON – The Arts Connection program at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College has received an increase of over $600 in funding to be appropriated to agencies in Tift, Turner, Irwin, Ben Hill, Cook, Berrien, Worth and Wilcox counties through the Grassroots Grant.

The $3,319 grant is meant to benefit arts agencies which can provide quality arts programming to the entire community, and which need “a boost” to get started. Each agency is given up to three years of Grassroots funds for its project.

Applying agencies must be able to raise matching funds (50 percent of granted amount). Projects must be focused on visual or performing arts, able to draw an audience, accessible and available to the entire community, and designed to outreach target populations. The deadline for applications is Sept. 12.

The Grassroots funding has been set aside since 1993 by the Georgia General Assembly. The Georgia Council for the Arts sets the program guidelines, and it is up to local agencies to decide how to put the money to work in the name of the arts.

Prospective grant recipients should call program administrator Polly Huff with the ABAC Arts Connection at (229) 391-4818 to obtain an application, or email phuff@abac.edu
