WILLIAMS RECEIVES J. LAMAR BRANCH AWARD AT
ABAC HOMECOMING
TIFTON - Anthony Williams of Flowery Branch received the J. Lamar
Branch award at the 2008 Homecoming celebration at
Williams attended ABAC from 1983 to 1985,
where he earned his degree in Ornamental Horticulture. He has been with
Marriott Golf for over 21 years, at Renaissance PineIsle Resort and Golf Club
from 1986 to 2005 and at Stone Mountain Golf Club/Evergreen Marriott Conference
Resort since 2005.
He has implemented a Certified Audubon Cooperative
Sanctuary Program that helps his course
protect the environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game of
golf. His efficient use of time and resources is keeping the program
under budget and his hard work helped his course – and others – survive the 16”
rainfall deficit in 2007.
His work with the
Children’s Miracle Network and numerous junior golf events is providing
exposure for a new generation to enjoy outdoor recreation. He has utilized the Stone Mountain Golf
Course as an outdoor classroom to teach greenskeeping
and environmental skills to special needs students. Three graduates of this program are now full time
greenskeepers at his course.
His
focus on safety has resulted in over 50,000 hours without a loss-time
accident. His work in pest management
and erosion control has achieved laudable results and his dedication to
“spreading the word” about responsible groundskeeping earned him the Marriott
Golf Crystal Achievement Award for Public Relations Excellence.
He recently
earned his 5th Dan Black Belt in Tenshi GoJu Karate. He was inducted into the International
Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2001 and is a Board of Advisor member of the
National College of Martial Arts. He is
married to Phyllis Young Williams, also an ABAC alumnus.
