BROWN WINS MS. ABAC 2008 TITLE

TIFTON - Ashley Brown, a nursing major from Omega, captured the title in the 39th annual Ms. ABAC event in Howard Auditorium on the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College campus Tuesday night.

Sponsored by the Student Government Association, Brown is the freshman class vice president and a member of the ABAC Ambassadors. She also won the interview portion of the competition.

With two previous pageant titles to her credit, the 18-year-old freshman felt good about her chances when she entered the event with 27 other contestants.

“When I go into something, I go in to win,” Brown said.  “I know I’m going to do my very best.”

As Ms. ABAC 2008, Brown will be representing the college during ABAC’s 100th birthday celebration which began on March 31 and continues through 2008.

“I know that I have to be the best that I can be at all times,” Brown said.  “I like ABAC.  It’s a perfect size.”

Brown really enjoys living on campus in the brand new $17 million ABAC Lakeside complex on the north shore of Lake Baldwin.

“I love living at Lakeside because I am a community assistant, and I have my own room and my own bathroom,” Brown said.

Brown is the daughter of Julius and Aloumia Brown.  She is a Colquitt County High School graduate who hopes to become a Certified Registered Nurse anesthetist.

Other finalists were Auttumn Pope, an animal science major from Snellville, first runner-up; Whitney Conner, a nursing major from Abbeville, second runner-up; Cassie Couch, a pre-dentistry major from Tifton, third runner-up; and Crissie Elrick, an agricultural communications major from Pembroke, fourth runner-up.

Kayla Wise, a music education major from Ashburn, won the essay competition, and Samantha Tankersley, an English major from Tifton, won the contestants' award.
