ALLISON WINS DONALDSON AWARD AT ABAC GRADUATION

TIFTON—Casey Allison, a business administration major from Dahlonega, received the highest honor presented to a graduating student from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College at Friday’s graduation ceremony. On behalf of the ABAC Alumni Association, ABAC President David C. Bridges presented Allison with the George P. Donaldson Award for outstanding scholarship and leadership.

Allison’s award included a plaque and a check for $500 from the ABAC Ag Alumni Council.  The award is based on a combination of academics and extracurricular activities.  Donaldson served as president of ABAC from 1947 - 61.

A total of 165 students participated in the Gressette Gym ceremony, which featured a speech by the Honorable George T. Smith, the only Georgian ever to have won contested elections in all three branches of state government – legislative, executive and judicial.  Smith graduated from ABAC in 1940.

While at ABAC, Allison has been involved in a variety of campus activities, including Alpha Beta Gamma, the ABAC Entrepreneurial Society, the Honors Program, Phi Theta Kappa, Baptist Collegiate Ministries, Circle K, and the ABAC Forestry and Wildlife Club.  He also served as a tutor at the Academic Assistance Center.

Allison received the Divisional Award of Excellence in Business Administration at Honors Day 2006 and 2007, was named the J.G. Woodroof Scholar in 2007, received the Miller Award of Distinction in 2006, was named a Phi Theta Kappa Leader of Promise for 2006-2007, and received the John H. Dorminy Scholarship for the 2006-2007 year.

When he is in his hometown, Allison is a volunteer firefighter and intermediate emergency medical technician for the Lumpkin County Fire Department in Dahlonega.

Following graduation, Allison plans to attend North Georgia College and State University to attain a bachelor’s degree in marketing. He is the son of Chester and Cynthia Allison.
