IMMEDIATE                                                                                                                                                                                    JANUARY 11, 2007                          ABAC TO AWARD $500 AT OPEN CAMPUS DAY

TIFTON—A $500 tuition grant will be awarded to a high school senior who takes part in the Stallion Days event on Feb. 6 at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The grant will be given away at 12:15 p.m. during lunch in the Donaldson Dining Hall. The student must be present to win.

Registration for the winter open campus day begins at 9 a.m. in Gressette Gym. “Open Campus Day gives students time to talk with professors, look at displays, and talk to student leaders,” said Ali Csinos, Coordinator of Student Recruitment. “We hope to have over 1,200 prospective students on the campus.”

Prospective students can visit information tables focusing on majors ranging from nursing to golf clubhouse management.  Personnel from admissions, housing, and financial aid will be on hand to answer questions from students and their parents.  Student clubs from all over campus will also have displays in the gym.

“Students can turn in or pick up any papers such as financial aid forms at this time as well,” said Csinos. “We moved the date of the Open Campus Day up so students attending this event will be able to meet any scholarship deadlines, as well as be able to attend Early Bird registration.”

The ABAC Ambassadors will give walking and bus tours of the 421-acre campus from 9 a.m. until noon. Students will also have an opportunity to participate in an activity sponsored by the Campus Activities Board from 10 – 11:45 a.m. on the Pedestrian Mall in front of the Carlton Center.

For students who plan to live on campus, one of the highlights of the day will be a tour of the $32 million apartment complex, ABAC Place.  Over 800 ABAC students live at ABAC Place, which features a private bedroom for every student in four-bedroom, two-bath apartments. Tours will be given of ABAC Place and an information session on the college’s newest residential living area, ABAC Lakeside, will be held from 9 –11:45 a.m.

Lunch will be provided for student visitors at the Donaldson Dining Hall from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. “Even if prospective students have already attended the Fall Open Campus Day, it will be beneficial to come on February 6 to see ABAC in full swing,” Csinos said.  “It’s also a great time to meet prospective roommates if students plan to live on the campus.”
