GOLDEN STALLIONS OPEN BASEBALL SEASON JANUARY 26

TIFTON- The Golden Stallions of Abraham Baldwin College will open their 2006 baseball season on Jan. 26 against the Lake City Community College Timberwolves in Lake City, Fla.  The Stallions will play Lake City again on Jan. 28 for their home opener at Stallion Field on the ABAC campus.

“We have a few people returning that have some experience but ultimately we are going to be playing really young,” ABAC Coach Steve Janousek said.  “Playing Lake City back-to-back is going to be a major challenge. We will find out where we’re at real quick.”

The captain of the team this year, Ty Wright, a sophomore from Hahira, should be one of the top hitters on the Stallions. “We are looking toward Wright to carry us at bat,” Janousek said.

Janousek expects the competition in the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association to be very strong.   “Perennially, Middle Georgia will be tough,” Janousek said.  “They won the conference last year. And Young Harris will be strong again this year.”

Janousek begins his tenth year as coach of the Golden Stallions.
