ABAC NEWSPAPER BRINGS HOME 12 AWARDS
TIFTON--The student newspaper at
Abraham Baldwin College, The Stallion,
brought home 12 awards from the recent Georgia College Press Association’s 2007
Better Newspaper Contest, including second place in the category of General
Excellence in the two-year college division.
The newspaper earned eight awards in the bulk
of the two-year general categories, including first place wins for Best Campus
Community Service – Sports and General Advertising Excellence. A second place
nod was received for Best Campus Community Service – Editorial Excellence. The Stallion brought home third place
earnings in Best Campus Community Service – News, Best Campus Community Service
– Features, and Improvement.
The Stallion competed with both two-year and four-year
institutions for a third place finish for Best Newspaper Web Site. The
awards covered editions published during the Spring 2006 and Fall 2006
semesters.
The campus paper, advised
by Dr. Eric Cash, Director of Student Media, also took home four awards for
individual achievement of The Stallion staff members.
Stallion
editor Michael McMillan of Eastman won first place for Best Sports Story and a second
place win for Best Feature Story. Michael Matuson of Kennesaw received second
place for Best Review and Daniel Shippey of Tifton received second place for
Best Sports Photography.
Georgia Highlands
College’s The Six Mile Post took
first place in General Excellence in the two-year division, and Gainesville
College’s The Compass finished third.
