WYLES TRIBUTE CONCERT AT ABAC ON APRIL 10

TIFTON - The Abraham Baldwin College Concert Band and Concert Choir will present an evening of music to pay tribute to former band director Eugene Wyles at 7:30 p.m. on April 10 in Howard Auditorium.  Wyles served as the ABAC Band Director and Instructor of Applied Woodwinds for the past 16 years until he passed away on Jan. 31.

Wyles received his formal training and earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Florida, a Master’s in Music Education from Vandercook College in Chicago, and was a graduate of the U.S. Naval School of Music in Washington, D.C. In 2005, Wyles was inducted into the Georgia Band Directors Hall of Fame.  Wyles served for 31 years as the band director at Worth County High School.

“Gene Wyles had a very special gift—his music,” ABAC music program director Don Coates said.  “He loved young people, and he devoted his life to helping, teaching, and guiding young people.”

The concert will include a variety of tunes which Wyles enjoyed teaching to his students.   The event is open to anyone who would like to attend at no charge. For more information, please contact Coates at (229) 391-4942.
