SCHOLARSHIPS WORTH $107,800 AWARDED TO ABAC STUDENTS

TIFTON—Seventy-two scholarships totaling $107,800 were awarded to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College students during Wednesday’s Honors Day ceremony. The awards, provided through the ABAC Foundation, were based on a number of criteria such as leadership ability, character, academic excellence, and financial need.

The $400 George H. King Scholarship was awarded to Estefania Campos-Martinez, a nursing major from Plant City, Fla. Sherry G. Walker, a nursing major from Fitzgerald, received the $400 C. L. Morehead Scholarship. The $400 J. Baldwin Davis Scholarship was awarded to Zachary C. Free, an agriculture major from Lula.

The Viola Carswell Johnson Nursing Scholarship in the amount of $500 went to Debra D. Tomlinson, a nursing major from Tifton. Taylor C. Hand, a liberal arts major from Tifton, received a $500 Agnes Davis Donaldson Scholarship.

A $500 Jesse & Dolly Chambliss Scholarship was awarded to Andrew L. Ross, an agricultural engineering technology major from Wray. Ross also received the $800 Marshall Guill Scholarship. Charles R. Simmemon, a wildlife technology major from Alto, received the $500 Richard L. Payne Wildlife Scholarship and the $1,500 David W. Mullis Memorial Scholarship.

The L.M. Veazey Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 was awarded to Gustavo Tovar-Banda, an environmental horticulture major from Douglas. Luis C. Arreguin, an environmental horticulture major from Tifton, received the $500 Brightwell Horticulture Scholarship. The $500 Doris Garrison Nelson Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Amy J. Haughton, an early childhood education major from Tifton. Amber N. Love, a veterinary medicine major from Ochlocknee, received the $500 Robert L. Miles Scholarship.

Maria G. Simon, a nursing major from Sydney, Fla., received the $500 Tift County Council on Child Abuse Scholarship. The $500 Frederick William Kinard, Jr., Scholarship was awarded to Erin A. McCallum, a foreign language major from Ambrose. Dennis E. Folsom, a nursing major from Adel, received the $500 Beckham Nursing Scholarship.

The $650 E. Ray Jensen Turfgrass Scholarship was awarded to Alexander J. Bernardon, a sports turf major from Monroe. Carly E. Junkins, a pre-medicine major from Warwick, received the $700 J. Murray Turner, Jr. Memorial Scholarship. The $800 E.P. & Iliene Bowen, Jr., Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Tammy K. Lassiter, an early childhood education major from Sycamore.

The $800 Jean B. Stoufer Nursing Scholarship was awarded to Mary I. Wright, a nursing major from Ashburn. Belinda A. Henry, a business administration major from Tifton, received the $800 John L. Herring Scholarship. The $900 B.L. Southwell Scholarship was awarded to Stephanie M. Slappey, an animal science major from Fortson.  Lissette Badillo, a business administration major from Norman Park, received the $900 Charles F. Powell, III Scholarship.

Four $1,000 James L. Sheppard Scholarships were awarded to James C. Franks, an agricultural engineering major from Waynesboro; Casey E. Allen, an agriculture education major from Dudley; Janna L. Legg, an animal science major from Palm City, Fla.; and Misty M. Hartsfield, an animal science major from Norman Park. Two $1,000 Shirley C. Hutchinson Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Robin D. Belcher, a nursing major from Ft. Gaines, Fla., and Collette L. Bailey, a nursing major from Hahira.          Tara L. Williams, a business administration major from Tifton, received the $100 Baldwin Woman’s Club Scholarship and the $1,000 Abraham Baldwin Alumni Scholarship. The Dr. Mike Bader Memorial Scholarship for $1,000 was awarded to Joshua C. Latham, a nursing major from Ocilla. Jonathan M. Owens, an agriculture business major from Donalsonville, received the $1,000 Eason Agricultural Studies Scholarship.

Two $1,000 Affinity Health Group Scholarships were awarded to Natalie G. Barber, a pre-medicine major from Tifton and Kelly A. Peele, a pre-medicine major from Lenox.

Kristina G. Story, a journalism major from Tifton, received the $1,000 W. Bruce & Rosalyn Ray Donaldson Journalism Scholarship. The $1,000 B.H. and Lanell Claxton Scholarship was awarded to Ashton K. Allen, an agriculture education major from Thomaston. The $1,000 John Henry Dorminey Scholarship was awarded to Amanda L. Collins, an agriculture major from Bostwick.

Three $1,000 Allan & Lelia J. Garden Scholarships were awarded to Misty L. Bagley, a nursing major from Fitzgerald; Brett Middlebrooks, an early childhood education major from Ocilla; and Susan A. Butler, an early childhood education major from Fitzgerald.

A $1,000 Abraham Baldwin Alumni Scholarship was awarded to Paten Lane Willis, an allied health major from Tifton. Two ABAC Ag Alumni Scholarships worth $1,000 each were awarded to Samuel K. Robinson, an animal science major from Lake City, Fla., and  Regina A. Holliday, an animal science major from Dublin.

A $1,200 Allan & Lelia J. Garden Scholarship was awarded to Donna D. Grantham, a nursing major from Wray.  The $1,250 Senator & Mrs. Harold Ragan Scholarship was awarded to Kyle L. Dekle, an agriculture education major from Donalsonville. Steven M. Whittington, a history major from Omega, received the $1,140 Georgia Vegetable Company Scholarship.  The $1,400 Vernon Yow Forestry Scholarship was awarded to James C. Shipes, a forest resources major from Lexington, S.C.  

The $1,500 Carlton Smith Scholarship was awarded to Sarah E. Hambrick, an animal science major from Eastonollee.  Bonnie M. Mincher, an early childhood education major from Scarborough, ME., received the $1,500 Larry W. (Buck) Wheeler Memorial Scholarship.  The $1,500 Prince Automotive Group Scholarship was awarded to Meagan L. Royal, a music major from Tifton.  Erin C. Hudson, a veterinary medicine major from Yatesville, received the $1,500 John Henry Dorminy Scholarship. The $1,500 Daren Brownlow Memorial Scholarship went to Mary R. Estes, an animal science major from Conyers.

Ten $1,500 Allan & Lelia J. Garden Scholarships were awarded to Lisa M. Allison, a nursing major from Ocilla; Jeffrey C. Jerkins, an art major from Fitzgerald; Lindie D. Howell, a nursing major from Ocilla; Sandy D. McDuffie, a computer science major from Fitzgerald; Susan C. Westberry, an art major from Fitzgerald; Jimmy F. Howell, a nursing major from Ocilla; Matthew G. Westberry, a nursing major from Fitzgerald; Tammy S. Brewer, a nursing major from Fitzgerald; Roy D. English, a history major from Rebecca; and Katie J. Crossin, an art major from Fitzgerald.

The $2,000 B.H. and Lanell Claxton Scholarship was awarded to Casee M. Davis, an agriculture education major from Stuart, Fla. Kraig Vickers, a forestry technology major from Leary, was awarded the $2,090 Langdale Company Forestry Scholarship. The $2,100 ABAC FFA Officer Scholarship was awarded to Sean A. Blankenship, an agriculture engineering major from Nicholls. Christina A. Norton, an art and education major from Tifton, received the $2,500 Vera Conger Smith Scholarship.

Three $2,500 James and Joyce Kirk Scholarships were awarded to James R. McCullars, a forest technology major from Dublin; Rhett S. Lermy, an agriculture education major from Swainsboro; and Richard W. Irvin, an agriculture major from Whigham.
