‘NIGHT OF CLASSICS’ AT FIRST TUESDAY CONCERT OCTOBER 3

             TIFTON - The First Tuesday concert on Oct. 3 at Abraham Baldwin College will feature faculty members of Valdosta State University and Georgia Southwestern State University. The performance will take place at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths. Dr. Susan Roe, professor of voice, is the series coordinator.

            Individual tickets for the performance may be purchased at the door. The cost is $3 for adults and $1 for students. ABAC students are admitted free with ID. Patrons of the Arts and Entertainment Series can also attend at no charge.

An ABAC art exhibit will be in the Music Building adjacent to the Chapel. It will feature paintings, drawings, and two-dimensional designs by ABAC students. The exhibit will be open for viewing before and after the concert.

David Lee Johnson, a baritone, will perform selections from G.W. Handel’s Messiah, Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs, and Frederick Loewe’s Paint Your Wagon. Johnson is the Director of Choirs and Vocal Instructor for VSU. He will be accompanied by VSU Music Department faculty member Maila Gutierrez Springfield, piano accompanist and instructor.

Dr. Julie Megginson, soprano, will perform a variety of pieces including G.W. Handel’s Art Thou Troubled and Roger Quilter’s Love’s Philosophy. She will also sing selections from Francesco Cilea’s Adriana Lecouver, Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini, and various pieces from Hugo Wolf and Leonard Bernstein.

Megginson is Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral/Vocal Activities at Georgia Southwestern State University. She teaches Voice and Music Theory and directs the GSW Concert Choir and Chamber Singers. Alwen Yeung, piano accompanist for Megginson, is staff accompanist with both the Columbus State University Schwob School of Music and Georgia Southwestern.
