MARSHALL RECEIVES OUTSTANDING SPECIALIST AWARD IN FLORIDA

TIFTON— Dr. Tim Marshall, the new chair of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s Division of Agriculture and Forest Resources, was the recent recipient of the Outstanding Specialist Award from the Extension Professionals Association of Florida. The award is for service within the organization.

He received the award at the annual three-day meeting of the Extension Professionals Association of Florida conference held in Marco Island, Fla., that featured a trade show, agriculture presentations, featured speakers, and a banquet.

Marshall was a county agent for Alachua County in Florida from 1982-1985 and a state specialist with the organization from 1986-2006.

“State specialists support all the counties within the state, help with needs from the county, and drive state programs,” Marshall said.

He also worked with youth and adults through the extension agency to help with youth development of programs such as the Cattlemen’s Association and 4-H.

“I have worked with young people from eight years old and up and also helped to train adult leaders to work with young people through the county extension offices,” Marshall said.

His new role at ABAC is a little different from working for the extension service.

“The biggest change for me since joining the ABAC faculty is being reactive,” Marshall said. “A phone call, e-mail, or visit can change my whole week. It’s a positive culture change for me.”

Marshall is no stranger to ABAC. He graduated from the college in 1977, where he was an agriculture transfer major.

“I love ABAC. I did as a student and now as a faculty member,” Marshall said.

After graduating from ABAC, he received a Bachelor’s degree in animal sciences from the University of Georgia. He then went to the University of Florida and received his Master’s degree in Beef Cattle Management and a Doctorate in Beef Genetics.

Marshall is currently living on the family farm in Cook County while heading the Division of Agriculture and Forest Resources at ABAC.                                                                                                                                        ###
