ABAC STUDENT RECEIVES GOIZUETA SCHOLARSHIP TO UGA

TIFTONRuben Jacobo-Rubio, an Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College business administration major from Dalton, received The Goizueta Foundation Scholars Fund Scholarship to attend the University of Georgia in the fall.

“I received a letter showing what the scholarship would cover,” said Jacobo-Rubio. “I was so happy to see that it covered not only tuition, but other expenses.”

Jacobo-Rubio has been involved in a variety of activities while at ABAC. He served as President of Cultural Latina, secretary of Alpha Beta Gamma, treasurer of the Student Government Association, and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. He participated in Mr. ABAC and was named to Who’s Who at ABAC and Who’s Who Among American Junior College Students.

“I liked the close connection with the professors at ABAC,” said Jacobo-Rubio. “I started out as a physical education major, but the professors helped me to choose what I wanted and expanded my ideas on what I could do.”

He leaves for the University of Georgia in the fall to pursue his Bachelor’s degree in either international business or economics.

“I’ve never been to UGA,” said Jacobo-Rubio. “I have this idea of UGA being a big challenge, but that’s what I like. I want to see how the campus works between the students and professors. I want to focus on my academics, but still be involved on campus.

“My goal is to complete my doctorate. I would like to pursue my Master’s at UGA and continue my doctorate at another school.”

His dream job would be to work with underdeveloped communities after he completes his college education.

To be eligible to receive The Goizueta Foundation Scholars Fund Scholarship, a student must be Hispanic/Latino, have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher, have certification that he is fluent in Spanish, participate within the community, be able to demonstrate financial need, and reside in the United States.

The Goizueta Foundation was established to provide financial assistance to educational and charitable institutions by Roberto C. Goizueta. The Goizueta Foundation is a private, general purpose, grant-making foundation whose mission is to assist organizations that empower individuals and families through educational opportunities to improve the quality of their lives.
