FRESHMAN SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED AT ABAC

TIFTON—Ninety-two entering freshmen at Abraham Baldwin College recently received scholarships worth over $124,750 by the ABAC Foundation for the 2006-07 academic year. 

Eighteen freshmen were awarded the ABAC Foundation Scholarship. The recipients of this scholarship were Heather Gilman from Ashburn; Kellie Peele from Eastman; Laura Eidson, Allison Ellington, Jonathan Hester, and Kimberleigh Morris of Fitzgerald; Jessica Barber from Lenox; Leigh Tyus of Moultrie; Jolie Pope of Norman Park; Brittany Bowden and Whitney Phillips of Ocilla; Elizabeth Alberson, Shelley Downs, and Kayla Willis from Sycamore; Sarah Sickling of Sylvester; Carly Junkins of Warwick; and Sandra Tinajero and Justin Willingham of Wray.

Fifteen new students received the ABAC Ag Alumni Scholarship for the 2006-07 year. The recipients were Casey Allen from Dudley; Llewellyn Boon of Alapaha; Jill Chafin from Norman Park; Lauren Croft of Madison; Haley Gibbs from Ocilla; Stephen Goldman of Washington; Brian Goodroe from Unadilla; Misty Hartsfield of Norman Park; Roxanne Miller from Edgefield, SC; Tyler Poole from Donaldsonville; Judson Temple and Merlin Temple from Jefferson; Wayne Mixson from Apopka, Fla.; Kelsey Ramsey from Jacksonville, Fla.; and James Shipes of Lexington, SC.

Thirteen Allan & Lelia J. Garden Scholarships were presented to MacKenzie Denney, Gwendolyn Dix, Rebecca Hickey, Brian Johnson, Quacentia Lewis, Kayla Mobley, Bernardino Orosco, Jennifer Upton, and LaKevisas Woodard of Ocilla; Morgan Childers, Sandra Leyse, and Matthew Jones of Fitzgerald; and Andrew Ross from Wray.

Fifteen George Conger Scholarships were awarded to Erin McCallum of Ambrose; Mary Estes of Conyers; Charley Hartsfield of Coolidge; Jennie Sawyer of Douglas; Gregory Brewer of Easley; Nicholas McGhee of LaFayette; Michael Murray of Moultrie; Kayla Cleghorn and Marcus Griffin of Ocilla; Steven Whittington of Omega; Haiden Hudson of Sylvester; Natalie Barber and Paten Willis of Tifton; Ashley Matthews of White Oak; and Erin Hudson of Yatesville.

Three students received the H. Gordon Davis, Jr., Scholarship. These students were Courtney Bivins, Haiden Hudson, and Kimberly Smith, all from Sylvester. Two James and Joyce Kirk Scholarships were awarded to James McCullars of Dublin and Jonathan Aaron of Hawkinsville.

Regina Holiday of Dublin and Ashley Doolittle of Modoc received the Katherine Rountree Christian Scholarship. The James E. Zorn Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Jami Griffith of Americus. Tony Guffey of Auburn received the J. Lamar Branch Memorial Scholarship, and Christopher Gribble of Calhoun received the Hugh and Norma Erwin Perry Scholarship.

            Ester Howell of Columbus received the Holly Twitty Donaldson Scholarship. William Godowns, Jr., of Concord received the Oren and Aileen Grace Harden Scholarship, and Kyle Dekle of Donaldsonville was awarded the Martin M. Sibbet Agricultural Scholarship. The Barbara Bishop Morgan Memorial Scholarship went to Anna Clair Wooten of Eatonton. Kiplyn Gill of Enigma received the Affinity Health Group Scholarship.

            Kayla King of Enigma received the James Perry Gleaton Scholarship. The Coca-Cola/ABAC High School Athletic Scholarship was awarded to Chelsea Nash of Fitzgerald and James Trimble of Moultrie. Collette Bailey of Hahira received the Colquitt EMC Scholarship, and Gabriel Broxton from Iron City received the FFA Welding Contest Scholarship. The Josephine L. Cloudman Scholarship was awarded to Gloria Gonzalez of Lenoir City, Tenn.

            Alicia Thompson of Sylvania received the Arch Rowan Scholarship and Jeremy Poppell of Thomasville received the Dolly W. Bearden Forestry Scholarship. The Britt Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Homero Hernadez-Hernandez of Tifton. Christina Norton of Tifton received the Charles and Gertrude Kemp, Jr., Scholarship, and Casslin Couch of Tifton received the J. Murray Turner, Jr., Memorial Scholarship.

            The Joseph A. Haley Sr., Scholarship was awarded to Amy Haughton of Tifton; Thomas Beery of Tifton received the Prince Automotive Group Scholarship; and Tara Williams of Tifton received the ABAC Staff Forum Scholarship. Jason Clark of Moultrie received the Middle South Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District Essay Scholarship. Jamey Knight of Nashville received the Georgia 4-H Scholarship, and the Jimmy Grubbs Scholarship was awarded to Christopher Wright of Jasper.

            Classes begin Aug. 21 for the fall term at ABAC.
