TWENTY-ONE GRADUATE FROM 209th ABAC POLICE ACADEMY

TIFTON—Twenty-one individuals from the South Georgia area recently received certificates at graduation exercises for the 209th Session of the South Georgia Police Academy Basic Mandate Class at Abraham Baldwin College.

Academy Director Ray Saxon said the Overall Achievement award for the session was awarded to Joseph I. Thomas of the Thomasville Police Department. Thomas also received first place in Academic Achievement and served as president of the class. Second place in Academic Achievement went to William D. Kicklighter of the Waycross Police Department.

First place in Firearms went to Aaron P. Hensley, Jr. of the Waycross Police Department, and second place went to Shawn C. Cowart of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

Other graduates included Christopher S. Yawn of the Adel Police Department; Justin R. Ellis from Albany, sponsored by the South Georgia Police Academy; David W. Bean and Kenneth W. Purvis of the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office; Elizabeth A. Croley of the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office; Mark E. Farley of the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office; Edwin S. Cleveland of the Moultrie Police Department; and Orenthal L. Porter of the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport.

Other graduates were William E. Baillargeon, Grover W. Griffin, Jr., and Julian S. Law of the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office; Jason A. Baldwin of the Thomasville Police Department; Jeremy D. Little of the Tift County Sheriff’s Office; Bryan C. Rhodes of the Tifton Police Department; and Leondus N. Dixon, Trent A. Gibbs, and Darryl L. White of the Waycross Police Department.

The South Georgia Police Academy regularly holds multi-week intensive training sessions designed to acquaint officers with state-of-the-art law enforcement techniques. The Academy operates in cooperation with the Division of Social Science at ABAC.
