UNIVERSITY SYSTEM APPROVES TENURE FOR ABAC FACULTY

TIFTON--The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia recently approved tenure for seven faculty members at Abraham Baldwin College effective Aug. 1, 2006. Those receiving tenure are JoAnn Brannen, Gary Dicks, Dr. Marvin Holtz, Steve Janousek, Melanie Moore, Dr. Susan Roe, and Abul Sheikh.

            Brannen, assistant professor of Business Information Technology, has been a faculty member at ABAC since 1998. She received her M.S. and B.S. degrees in Business Education from Valdosta State University.

Dicks, assistant professor of Mathematics, has been an ABAC faculty member since 1997. He earned his B.S. in Mathematics from Auburn University and his M. Ed. in Mathematics Education from Albany State University.  

Holtz, associate professor of Biology, began teaching in ABAC’s Division of Science and Mathematics in 2001. He earned his B.A. in Biology from Lyons College, an M.S. in Biology from Niagara University, and a Ph. D. in Science Education from Florida State University.

Janousek is an assistant professor of Health and Physical Education and the men’s baseball coach. He joined the ABAC faculty in 1997. He holds an A.A. in Health and Physical Education from Middle Georgia College and a B.S. and M.Ed. in Health and Physical Education from Georgia College.

 Moore is an assistant professor of Mathematics. She has been a member of the ABAC faculty since 1998. She received her B.S. in Mathematics from Radford College, and an M.S. in Mathematics from the University of West Florida.

Roe, assistant professor of voice, has taught in ABAC’s Music Department since 2002. She holds a B.M. in Music Education – Voice Performance from Converse College; an M.C.M in Music Pedagogy from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary;  and a D.M.D. in Music Performance from the University of South Carolina.

Sheikh, associate professor of Business Information Technology, has been a part of the ABAC faculty since 1990. He earned his B.S. degree in Agricultural Engineering from Bangladesh Agricultural University and his M.S. in Computer Science at North Dakota State University.

Tenure may be granted to a faculty member who has served at least five years as an assistant professor and has shown the potential for making significant contributions to the college and in the professor's field.
