MAW WANTS EDUCATION TO HELP HIS FAMILY

TIFTON – Michael Maw, an Enigma resident who is double majoring in Crop and Soil Sciences and Agricultural Communication at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, has a lot of reasons as to why he attended ABAC.

“The big factor was that it was close to home,” Maw said. “I could save money by still living at home. I had been to the campus previously before becoming a student. I felt, and still feel like a part of a close knit group.”

Maw also said that he enjoys the fact that ABAC is a small college. “That’s the aspect I like best,” he said. “You get into a routine of seeing people you know everyday, and that’s nice. I don’t feel intimidated or afraid to say hello to someone, unlike on a larger campus.”

On campus, he is a member of the Baptist Student Union and the ABAC Ambassadors. Maw also serves as News Editor for the campus newspaper, The Stallion. He has received the James and Joyce Kirk Scholarship from ABAC two years in a row. He is a former State FFA vice president and was recently awarded an American FFA degree in October.

“I really like the relationships I’ve built with the students, faculty, and staff through participating on campus,” Maw said. “I like interacting with everyone.”

His hobbies include eating and running every morning. “I run to counteract my eating,” Maw said. Another big aspect in his life is his faith. “My faith guides me everyday. I try to keep joy in my heart and going where God wants me to go,” he said.

Upon leaving ABAC, Maw will attend the University of Georgia, with hopes of attaining a Master’s degree in Crop and Soil Sciences.

When asked about his future plans, Maw said, “I want to use my science background to go back home and help on my family’s farm with a family of my own one day.”
