JACKSON STUDENT ‘FEELS RIGHT’ AT ABAC

TIFTON – Anna Daniel, a pre-veterinary medicine major from Jackson, will soon be leaving the campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College when she graduates in May. With her final semester now underway, she reflected on her first visit to ABAC for the Governor’s Honors Program.

“ABAC just felt right when I first was on the campus,” Daniel said.  “I knew it was the place to be and when I got the opportunity to play tennis here, I didn’t want to turn that down.”

Besides being a member of the 2005 State Champion ABAC tennis team, Daniel is active in other student organizations including the ABAC Ambassadors, the Pre-Vet Club, the Horticulture Club, and is a new member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society.

She has participated in the ABAC Beauty Revue for the past two years, where she finished as the fourth runner - up both times. She has also been named to Who’s Who Among American Junior Colleges, and was the spring 2005 winner of the Lew Akin Speech Showcase. She has been on the Dean’s List at ABAC since her first semester.

Daniel’s hobbies include playing tennis, traveling, shopping, and cheering for the University of Georgia football team.

Her love of animals has driven her to become a veterinarian. “I grew up around animals and loved them,” said Daniel. “I worked for a veterinarian for two years before coming to ABAC, and that helped me make my choice in majoring in the field.”

Once she graduates, Daniel plans to attend the University of Georgia in the College of Agriculture before moving on to the college’s veterinary school. “I figured it out, and I will be a doctor in 2012,” Daniel said.

Once that goal is accomplished, she hopes to have her own practice in a small town in Georgia and be an active part of the community by being a youth leader or working with a youth organization.

“I love the small town feel. I would also like to be a part of my hometown again. I’d like to help support the community that supported me,” Daniel said. “Hopefully I will fulfill that dream.”
