ABAC JAZZ ENSEMBLE, CONDUCTORS SELECTED FOR HONOR BAND CLINIC

TIFTON - The Abraham Baldwin College Jazz Ensemble has been selected to be the only performing ensemble invited to the 2006 honor band clinic. Each year, the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) host honor band clinics throughout the 12 districts of Georgia. The District II band clinic, which covers the southwestern part of Georgia, will be held on Feb. 16-18 in Norman Park.

The concert will take place at 7 p.m. on Feb. 17 at the Norman Park Baptist Assembly. The public is invited to attend, and there is no admission charge to the performance. Don Coates, the ABAC Jazz Ensemble director, has been selected to direct the District II Honor Jazz Band.

In addition to the ABAC Jazz Ensemble performance, Eugene Wyles, Director of Bands at ABAC and the conductor of the ABAC Concert Band, has been selected to conduct one of the District II Honor Bands. Wyles will conduct the District II Honor Band in concert on Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. at the Norman Park Baptist Assembly.  This concert is also free to the public.

The ABAC Jazz Ensemble has given numerous performances throughout the Southeastern United States, Mexico, and Europe. The ensemble has performed at two of

the most prestigious jazz festivals in the world: the Montreaux in Switzerland and the North Sea in Amsterdam.

The Jazz Ensemble has also performed for two of the most celebrated functions in Georgia:  the opening of the Olympics and the Governor’s Art Awards Ceremonies, both held in Atlanta.
