GABOS, INDERGAARD TO PLAY AT STAFFORD SERIES

TIFTON - The Stafford Steinway Series will showcase Dr. Lyle Indergaard of Valdosta State University and Dr. Judit Gabos of Romania as the featured performers on Feb. 21 on the campus of Abraham Baldwin College.

The Stafford Series Concert will be held at Howard Auditorium at 7 p.m. This event is open to the community at no charge.

Indergaard and Gabos will play a four-hand piano recital. Wayne Jones, Director of the ABAC Arts Connection, said, “Four-hand piano playing is when two people are playing on the same piano at the same time. One person plays solely on the upper level while another takes the lower level. There aren’t a lot of pieces for a four-hand recital. It’s an unusual type of concert to have, but one to look forward to.”

Indergaard is an Associate Professor of Piano at Valdosta State University where he teaches studio and class piano, and serves as Graduate Music Coordinator. His degrees include two performance diplomas from the Freiburg Conservatory of Music in Germany and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music.  Dr. Indergaard was awarded both a Fulbright Scholarship and an Annette Kade Foundation Grant for piano study in Germany.

Gabos is a native of Cluj, Romania and studied piano at the Cluj Conservatory and the George Dima Music Academy.  After winning the 1985 Rumanian National Piano Competition, she toured Eastern Europe extensively giving solo and chamber music recitals.  She has been Professor of Piano at Esterhazy Karoly College in Eger, Hungary since 1991.  She was awarded a Doctor of Piano Performance degree from the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary in 2003.

Pieces selected for the four-hand piano performance include selections from Mozart, Schubert, Debussy, and Dvorak. A reception will follow the performance. For more information, contact Jones at (229) 391-4820.
