ABAC NEWSPAPER BRINGS HOME 15 AWARDS
TIFTON--The student newspaper at
Abraham Baldwin College, The Stallion,
brought home 15 awards from the recent Georgia College Press Association’s 2006
Better Newspaper Contest. The
awards covered editions published during the Spring 2005 and Fall 2005
semesters.
The newspaper earned awards in the bulk of the
general categories, including second place wins for Improvement and for Best
Campus Community Service – Editorial Excellence. The paper also received third
place nods in General Advertising Excellence, Layout and Design Excellence, and
Best Campus Community Service – News.
The campus paper, advised
by Eric Cash, Director of Student Media, also took home 10 awards for
individual achievement of The Stallion’s staff members.
Maleria Brown of
Sycamore won
first place for Best Column and third place for Best News Article –
Interpretive/Investigative. Michael Maw of Enigma earned first place for Best Entertainment Feature,
second place for Best Editorial/Feature Photograph, and third place for Best
News Article - Objective. Eric Westbrook of Crawfordville, Fla., won first place for Best Sports Photograph,
second place for Best Entertainment Feature, and third place for Best Feature
Story. Nate Brock of Sycamore received second place for Best
Column, and Mitch Ogletree of Tifton
was awarded third place for Best Review.
The South Georgian of South Georgia College finished first overall, followed
by Gainesville State College’s The
Compass and The Six Mile Post
from Georgia Highlands College.
